Chattanooga, TN is one of the most charming and picture-perfect cities in the Southeast, with no shortage of fun things to see and do. The city is full of beautiful photo locations, and I want to highlight some of my favorites as a Chattanooga photographer! These five gorgeous downtown Chattanooga photo spots are perfect for everything from family photos to senior sessions and even engagements.
To help you navigate the city, I put all the downtown Chattanooga photo spots on this list in the handy dandy map below!
The first downtown Chattanooga photo spot I recommend for photographers is Coolidge Park. Coolidge Park is a popular Chattanooga destination located in the city’s North Shore area. Coolidge Park offers a great variety of backdrops, and I especially love the waterfront views of the Tennessee River. Photographers have tons of opportunities to get creative when shooting in Coolidge Park, and this location is perfect for any kind of session. I recently photographed a surprise proposal in Coolidge Park and couldn’t have asked for a better location!
You won’t have to travel far for this next Chattanooga photo spot! The Coolidge Park Carousel (which is located inside Coolidge Park) is an antique ride from 1894 that’s a seriously stunning addition to photos. The carousel has tons of ornate detailing and 50+ hand-carved animals that give photos a whimsical flair. It’s hard not to have fun photographing the Coolidge Park Carousel, and I love capturing all the laughs as my clients take a spin!
Walnut Street Bridge is a can’t-miss Chattanooga photo spot for amazing views of the city. This stunning bridge overlooks the Tennessee River and downtown Chattanooga, and there are lots of fun ways for photographers to play around with angles and perspective. As a bonus, the entire bridge is pedestrian-only, which means you won’t have to worry about dodging cars – just the occasional bicyclist!
Umbrella Alley – located in the West Village area – is a super fun and quirky Chattanooga photo spot. I was recently introduced to this location and can’t believe I didn’t pay it a visit sooner! Tucked between some buildings on West 8th Street, you can find this charming little alley with colorful umbrellas suspended in the sky. Umbrella Alley is a really unique photo spot that adds a fun pop of color and a playful vibe to photos.
Just about a half mile down the road from Umbrella Alley, you can find the last of my favorite Chattanooga photo spots: Moxy Chattanooga Downtown. Moxy Chattanooga Downtown is a trendy, upscale hotel with three amazing bars and a super artsy lounge space (just look at how cool that mural is!) where you can pop in for a coffee or cocktail and snap some amazing photos that look straight out of a magazine. I kept things low-key during my visit to the Moxy by bringing minimal gear and keeping our session short and sweet, so we weren’t in the way of staff or guests. If you want to bring a full photography setup or utilize more of the space, I’d recommend reaching out to the manager in advance or having a chat with the bartender to get permission!
Whether you’re a professional Chattanooga photographer scouting out some new locations or a first-time visitor looking to snap some awesome iPhone pics for Instagram, this list of five gorgeous downtown Chattanooga photo spots has something for everyone. Make sure to save this post so you can refer to it in the future, and drop your favorite Chattanooga locations in the comments so I can check them out!
