I’m still on cloud nine after being voted Baldwin County’s 2024 Best Wedding Photographer (read that exciting news here), and I want to celebrate by sharing six romantic couple poses for newlyweds! As one of the most important days of your life, you deserve beautiful wedding photos that you can look back on with love for years. I’ve been honored to capture many couples tying the knot throughout my career as a wedding photographer, and these are my favorite wedding photo ideas and go-to newlywed photo poses. Regardless if you’re married in a large cathedral or eloping on the beach, these poses for couples always ensure stunning shots.
Let me know in the comments or DM me on Instagram (@jessi_casara) if you want to see more poses for wedding photos, including bridal portrait ideas and inspiration for wedding party photos.
One of my favorite couple photo poses for weddings is to have the newlyweds lightly touch their noses or foreheads. Whether you take a close-up photo or one from a distance, this pose idea creates an intimate moment with genuine smiles. Wedding photographers can also have the bride hold her bouquet or let her veil blow in the wind for extra oomph.
I guide my newlyweds to look in different directions when I want to add interesting angles and contrast to my wedding photos. You can get really creative with this pose for newlyweds by playing around with how close they’re standing and how wide of a photo you take. I especially love using this pose to capture the location and background, whether it’s a vintage van, a building with interesting architecture, the beach, or a massive tree.
Incorporate playful movement into your wedding photos by letting one couple member (usually the bride so we can get a dramatic dress moment) lead their partner by the hand. This is a fun pose to help couples relax and loosen up—it’s incredibly simple but guarantees cute couple pictures. If the bride is wearing a dress with a train, I also encourage their spouse to help carry the extra fabric for a sweet touch.
Of course, you can’t take newlywed photos without a classic ring shot to show off the bling! There are many ways to take eye-catching ring photos, from shooting at a low angle while the couple holds the wedding bouquet together to having them interlace fingers. Sometimes, I’ll tell the couple to hold their hands up and show off their rings while kissing—a little corny but cute, and who doesn’t love a hint of corny every now and then?
When in doubt, hug it out! Having the bride or groom hug their partner from behind is a romantic and timeless pose for newlywed photos. For authentic laughs, encourage the newlywed doing the hugging to whisper sweet or funny things in the other’s ear. Giggles are sure to ensue!
Last but certainly not least is a classic cuddly portrait, always a hit for beautiful wedding pictures. It’s easy for staged portraits to look stiff and unnatural, so I prompt my couples to cuddle and cozy up. Take a variety of close-up and landscape portraits for a mix of fun and personal yet sophisticated couple photos.
Voila, those were my top couple poses for newlyweds! I hope you’re feeling inspired by these wedding photo ideas! Here’s to capturing all the lovey-dovey wedding day feels. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer, I’d love to talk more—give me a shout, and let’s make some magic happen!
xo,
Jessi
