Meghan + Joe | First Look Family Portrait Session | Alabama Family Photographer

Last year, I got the special opportunity to photograph a First Look Family Portrait Session for Joe and Meghan, and it presented quite the unique challenge! Joe and Meghan had plans to elope in Montana, but they wanted to do a First Look Session with their families since it would just be the two of them going to Montana. I think this was a really sweet and clever way to incorporate family into their big day while still keeping their elopement private and small. The interesting part of their session was that Meghan didn’t want Joe to see her in her wedding dress at all!

We had to get really creative with not only the family portraits but also Joe and Meghan’s couple portraits so that Joe wouldn’t accidentally catch a glimpse of Meghan in her dress. We ended up incorporating some of the beautiful trees at The Elizabeth, where I photographed Joe and Meghan’s families, to keep Meghan’s dress top secret from Joe. I also had them do some back-to-back poses during their couple portraits which turned out super cute!

This session was also incredibly special because we got to include both Joe and Meghan’s fathers, who had sadly passed away. In remembrance of them, we made sure to incorporate some portraits of the two men in the family photos, so that they could still be a part of the session. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to celebrate such a major life event without having your dad by your side, and I’m so thankful they got to be there in this way.
