Many engaged couples see their dogs as important family members who deserve to be included in their weddings. If your pup holds a special place in your heart, it only makes sense to incorporate them into one of the happiest days of your life. I've photographed several weddings where pups were included in one way or another, and it's fun to see how couples get creative to honor their canine companions. Here are six of the best ways to include your dog in your wedding!
6 Clever Ways to Include Your Dog in Your Wedding
1. Getting Ready
Nothing helps a case of the pre-wedding jitters better than having your furry friend by your side. Regardless of whether your pup will be attending the ceremony or not, it's special to have them keep you company as you get ready to walk down the aisle. The calmer environment is also ideal for dogs who can get anxious in unfamiliar settings with big crowds of people.
2. Ring Bearer
One of the most adorable ways to incorporate your dog into your wedding is to make them the ring bearer. I recommend this for small pups who can be held by someone in the wedding party, or dogs that are really comfortable on a leash. The last thing you want is your dog running off with the rings!
3. Best Boy or Pup of Honor
If your dog is your best friend and you want them beside you as you make things official, why not make them the Best Boy or Pup of Honor? Walk them down the aisle and have them sit or lie down next to you throughout the ceremony. Kari and Chris did this on their big day, and it was adorable seeing their pup, Dansby, making heart eyes at his Mom and Dad as they tied the knot.
4. Newlywed Portraits
Newlywed portraits are the perfect time to include your fur baby. Things will be quieter since it will just be you, your pup, and your wedding photographer. This is also a great time to show off your dog's wedding day look, whether a full-on outfit or a collar with a mini bow tie.
5. Favors
Add your dog to your wedding favors to honor them on your special day. Koozies are always a hit because they're a cute yet practical way to highlight your favorite fur baby. You could also do goodie bags with custom dog-themed cookies (for humans) and dog biscuits for guests to share with their pups at home.
6. Decorations
Decorations are an excellent way to tie in your dogs, even if they can't be there on your wedding day. Some wedding venues may not be dog-friendly (or you may have a fur baby that isn't venue-friendly 😆) so you can include your pups with napkins, cake toppers, coasters, and more. Everyone will get a giggle out of your dedication to tying your dog into the big day.
Hopefully, you're inspired to include your fur babies on your wedding day! I'd love to hear in the comments how you incorporated your pups into your wedding.
